On Mint 18.1, I get three separate pop-up notifications that indexing is complete (after I select update index in the GUI).

I only get one (just installed/updated mint18 cinnamon with recoll from the standard repository).

Ah. Well, I am getting seemingly endless Indexing done notifications, even now that I have uninstalled Recoll. To elaborate on that last front: it seems that the cronjob wasn’t removed when the program was uninstalled.

This is really weird, because the Indexing done message is sent by the GUI. I guess that this could occur if indexing was repeatedly called, and did more or less nothing because the index was up to date. I think that the tray messages are queued by the desktop, so they could conceivably accumulate. But this is a rather farfetched idea. It would need a problem with the cron scheduling for example to become more or less plausible. About the cron entry: it’s quite probably true that they are not removed with the package, which is a packaging issue.

I have not tried the cron editing tool for some time (but I have not heard of problems either). Did you notice by any chance if there appeared to be a problem with the not removed crontab entry?

[T]he tray messages are queued by the desktop, so they could conceivably accumulate: that is the sort of thing that I can imagine happening on Linux Mint.

Did you notice by any chance if there appeared to be a problem with the not removed crontab entry? I am afraid that I did not notice. However, within the next few days I could reinstall Recoll and investigate. Hopefully I will get around to that - and if I do, I will post the results here.
