Often while browsing the result list I want to start a new search or edit the current search. The search bar can be "found" by the keyboard with some number of TAB presses, but the number varies depending on the last link that was followed. A keyboard shortcut to activate the search bar would be convenient.

Currently I can get the approximate effect by pressing Ctrl-S to clear the result list as well as the search text. Then, if the focus was previously on the results list, a shift-TAB to put the cursor in the search bar. I would prefer a single key combination with a slightly different effect: do not erase the result list, instead select all text in the current search and place the cursor at the end of the selected text (i.e., the style in firefox for Ctrl-L).

Firefox and konqueror both respond to Ctrl-L to go to the URL address bar. Firefox uses Ctrl-K to activate its search bar (instead of the address bar), but this shortcut already has an effect in recoll, to erase to the end of the line in the search text.

Does Shift-Ctrl-S not do what you want ?

It does, exactly! I wasn’t aware of that one. Thanks.

I guess the only problem left is where I could find that shortcut documented? I couldn’t find it in the manual.

Yes, you are perfectly right, I forgot to document this shortcut, you’d have to read the source code to find it…

Updating the manual right now.

Thanks for pointing this up.
