Recoll version 1.22.2-1ppa1trusty1

The viewer flashes briefly for some file types and automatically closes immediately.

what file types ? Any error message (start the app from a console) ?

lwolter54 writes

Sorry, no messages displayed when starting from a console.

The problems occurs with *.sql and * .java files. Open the associated editor goes successfully. Other files * .txt, * .sh etc. (with the same mime type text/plain) can be displayed successfully with the viewer.

Problems occurs also on Cinnamon Desktop

The main change I can think of is that the command used to identify the MIME type for extensions not in mimemap has changed from "file -i" to "xdg-mime query filetype". Maybe the latter does not output text/plain for your sql and java files ? In which case, I think that the best approach would be to define explicit associations in ~/.recoll/mimemap:

.sql = text/plain
.java = text/plain

I have regardless of your tip the mimeconf file changed

#!
application/sql = internal text/plain
text/x-java = internal text/plain

After this change, the problem no longer occurred. Thank you!

Yes, this is a better change. If you have many such files, you could also set the suffixes associations in mimemap too (with application/sql and text/x-java) to minimize executions of xdg-mime.
