Hi, I had Recoll installed in a previous installation with Ubuntu 12.04 and had the index on the same NTFS external USB HDD. Never had a problem.

This time round, after a reinstall, recall just does not seem to react if I click on "update index". No indexed files are shown.

I then tried "recollindex" via terminal and got the following error message:

~$ recollindex :2:../rcldb/rcldb.cpp:681:Db::open: exception while opening [/media/Elements/Recoll Xapian Database]: Couldn’t open base /media/Elements/Recoll Xapian Database/postlist.baseA to write: Input/output error :2:../index/indexer.cpp:57:ConfIndexer: error opening database /media/Elements/Recoll Xapian Database : Couldn’t open base /media/Elements/Recoll Xapian Database/postlist.baseA to write: Input/output error Indexing failed

Any ideas? I used the previous index directory, the usb drive is mounted.

It’s difficult to be sure, but the only thing the error points to is an actual I/O error while accessing the index data on the drive. Can you copy the index files from the drive? Can you copy a file to the index directory on the drive ?

In despair, I’d try to delete the index directory and run the indexing again.

There may be a higher level Recoll problem here, but nothing in the messages point to it.

Cheers,

jf

Nothing points to an actual recoll/xapian issue
